Huawei Mate 20 X Review

Huawei Mate 20 X Review

The Huawei Mate 20 X is a device that we’ve been waiting a long time for and we have not been disappointed. The Mate 20 X has been crafted beautifully with one clear intention in mind; delivering high quality graphics on a stunning large display, with all of the features necessary (and more!) to use it as your day to day smartphone. The device is available to pre-order now from Clove at £799.99 with first stock expected in January, so head over to our website to check that out. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has given us a little glimpse of what we might expect from this device – so, what are our thoughts? Design and Display Now, of course the first thing you’re bound to notice with the Mate 20 X is the sheer size of the display, measuring in at almost an inch bigger than the Mate 20 Pro. Indeed, the Full HD OLED display is 7.2-inches and so offers an extensive amount of room to work with. Despite the size, it is possible to easily hold the phone and perform a one-handed operation which Huawei has achieved by minimising the bezels as much as possible so that you can hardly see them at all. The sides and the chin are tiny, whilst a small water drop notch similar to the one found on the Mate 20 minimises the top. As such, the device has a whopping 87% screen-to-body ratio and a tall 18.7:9 aspect ratio. With a 2244 x 1080-pixel resolution at 346 pixels per inch, the device provides a fully immersive experience that gamers, photographers and media lovers will absolutely love! The fingerprint sensor is now to the rear of the device and this can also be used to perform swiping tasks, for example when scrolling through images in your picture gallery. You don’t need to worry about fingerprint smudges though, as the glass on the back of the device has been coated in an anti-fingerprint solution. Now, what is a film or game without accompanying sound? At both ends of the device, you can find dual symmetrical speakers that offer a super high dynamic range of up to 40 dB so that every sound – no matter how loud – is produced in astounding clarity, richness and depth. Full HD OLED 7.2-inch display 87% screen-to-body ratio 18.7:9 aspect ratio 2244 x 1080-pixel resolution 346ppi Rear fingerprint sensor Dual symmetrical speakers: 40dB   Camera If photography is your thing, then you’ll be really pleased to hear that the Mate 20 X has adopted the same triple lens system that’s found on the Mate 20 Pro. A number of us here at Clove have been using the Mate 20 Pro for around a month now and just cannot fault the device when it comes to taking pictures. Whether it’s been pictures with friends or scenery shots, the pictures that we’ve managed to take have been incredible. The Leica triple lens is fitted with a main 40MP sensor that is perfect for capturing the details of pictures, a 20MP ultra-wide-lens that is vital for those landscape shots, macro shots and of course the big group pictures, whilst the 8MP telephoto lens is fitted for distant shots. If selfies are your thing then you’ll love the 24MP selfie shooter with a wide-angle-lens, as well as beauty mode and portrait mode. What we have found particularly impressive is Huawei’s AI technology which can recognise more than 1500 scenes and automatically adjusts colours, brightness and contrast to suit the light accordingly. And if all that wasn’t enough, then you can look back on all your stunning images on your large 7.2inch display. It really is a smartphone photographers dream. Leica triple-lens camera 40MP main sensor, 20MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 8MP telephoto lens 24MP front camera AI technology recognises over 1500 scenes   Performance As with the rest of Huawei’s Mate 20 range, the Mate 20 X comes with a HiSilicon Kirin 980 octa-core processor. The Kirin 980 has worked fantastically on the Mate 20 Pro and seems to be perfect for serious mobile gamers as we haven’t experienced any early problems with lag or frame rates. The device is powered by GPU Turbo 2.0 technology in which hardware and software work hand in hand to accelerate speed and power, for faster, smoother and more stable gaming, even in complex and graphically intense games. Now, if things do start to become intense, the Mate 20 X is fitted with Huawei SuperCool – the world’s first liquid cooling system that conducts heat away from the core to keep the phone cool. We probably haven’t done enough serious gaming on the device to make a judgement on this yet, but we’ve encountered no problems whatsoever so far. Alongside this, the device comes with an industry leading 5000mAh battery that will keep you covered for hours of entertainment as well as 128GB of internal memory and 6GB of RAM. HiSilicon Kirin 980 octa-core processor GPU Turbo 2.0 technology Huawei SuperCool – liquid cooling system 5000mAh battery 128GB & 6GB RAM   So, as you can see, the Huawei Mate 20 X is possibly the ultimate phone for photographers, gamers and media lovers. The display is simply unrivalled and the sound produced by the speakers really is extraordinary for a mobile device. The Huawei Mate 20 X can now be pre-ordered from Clove for £799.99 with first stock expected early in December. Head to our website to check that one out!

Ways you can use the CAT S60

Ways you can use the CAT S60

The CAT S60 is very well known for its rugged design, protection against falls, water and the thermal camera. Having these features often leads people to believe that this handset is only for use by people in the manual labour industry such as builders, plumbers and electricians etc. However this reputation isn’t completely correct because the CAT S60 has many other outstanding features. It may even be the phone for you. Here are some scenarios in which you can use the CAT S60 and its thermal camera: Construction Competitive advantage Check insulation on property Identify damp areas Check fluid levels on machinery Generate real time reports Spot overheating machinery Impact resistant MIL spec 810g You can use the thermal camera to measure the surface temperature enabling you to ensure the insulation is effective. The thermal camera will also allow you to identify damp spots around a building allowing you to proceed in resolving the issue. As well as spotting damp areas you will be able to measure fluid levels on machinery and make sure the machinery is not overheating. When checking that all of these potential issues are being monitored you can create real time reports from a touch of a button on the CAT S60, which allows you to complete a report on a work sight right there and then. In the construction industry there is a lot of physical work being done, this means things will be knocked, dropped and take heavy impacts. You will not need to worry about damaging your phone with the CAT S60 because it has a MIL spec 810G rating which means it will survive falls onto concrete from a height of 1.8 meters. Plumbing Find hidden faults See blockages in pipes Find water leaks Identify damp spots Gauge liquid level in sealed containers Find hot and cold pipes See the accurate temperatures of pipes Identify weak points in joints Water resistant up to 5 metres Being able to see the temperatures of pipes will enable you to not only locate hot and cold pipes but also see any leaks. If there is a leak of some kind, it may create a damp spot which you will simply be able to see with the S60’s impressive thermal camera. You will be able to very simply measure the gauge liquid level in sealed containers, so you will always know what you are dealing with, allowing you to complete your job more efficiently. You may need to know the temperature of a pipe is correct to ensure everything is working as it should, the thermal camera will make this task easy as you can accurately read the temperature of specific areas within view of the thermal camera. Most electronic devices are not water resistant. Not ideal when you are working with water. With the CAT S60 you will not have to worry about water damage to your handset because it has been made with this in mind. The phone itself can survive immersion in fresh water at a depth of 2 meters for 30 minutes. Flicking the switch by the speakers enables you go as deep as 5 metres. CAT has done a very good job when it comes to water resistance. Electrical Prevent damage Find sockets drawing to much electricity Prevent faults by inspecting valuable electronics Find concealed wiring Spot overheating electronics When an electrical socket is drawing to much electricity the plug may heat up which can be seen by the CAT S60’s thermal camera allowing you pinpoint issues. Being able to see accurate temperatures with the thermal camera you can inspect valuable electronics to see if anything is overheating. Avoid costly repairs and machine downtime by detecting and repairing the faulty part sooner rather than later. Hidden wiring within a wall and it can be difficult to find. Switch on the FLIR camera to find that hidden wiring with a lot less effort! These are just a couple of examples of how the CAT S60 can save you time, money and effort. Search and Rescue Quicker, Safer Locating missing persons Search large areas of ground quickly See through most smoke (Fire fighting) Conduct searches easily in the dark See temperature of objects/rooms Check areas are safe to re-enter Check fluid levels on containers If you have to search for missing persons, you will be able to do it easier with the eye-catching CAT S60. Pick up that person as a heat source with the thermal image functionality. There are different modes on the Flir camera which you can use to make a missing persons search easier which are: Iron, white hot, black hot, rainbow, contrast, arctic, lava, coldest and hottest. Each of these modes could be used at different times in different situations to get optimal use out of the CAT S60’s Flir camera. You will be able to search large areas of ground very quickly due to being able to scan for people over a field or forest etc. If you do not see any silhouettes then you can move on to the next area and repeat the same process. The camera will allow you to see through smoke in most cases, this could be used for fire fighting while trying to see if any persons remain within a burning building. Outdoor High-tech camping Measure outdoor cooking temperatures Check a fire is fully extinguished Find people in the dark Check insulation of a sleeping bag Check for animals in a campsite Rugged design to prevent damage to handset When you go camping its always nice to cook some food on a barbecue however when cooking meat you will need to make sure its cooking at a high enough temperature, with the S60 you can measure this. Had a campfire burning? Make sure that it has been put out correctly, all you need to do is use the Flir camera to check whether there are any hot and avoid any risk of reigniting. Not all campsites are lit up enough so you can get lost in the dark or lose a friend very easily. To simply find someone you can scan the area and look for heat in the silhouette of a body and you can find whoever you’re looking for. Your thermal camera will be able to pick up heat from lots of things including animals. If you would like to see nature and have a look at the local deer you will be able to spot them from a reasonable distance. Mechanic Innovate and improve Measure engine temperature Inspect efficiency of cooling system Spot leaks in pipes/radiators Check for binding brakes Spot leaks from the exhaust system Measure tyre temperature (check for even wear) If you are a mechanic you may want to check whether the engine is running correctly use the thermal camera. Make sure heat is coming from the correct place and that the correct things are being cooled. Spot air leaks and help diagnose faults. You can even spot whether or not breaks are binding and tyres are wearing evenly. Veterinary and Farming Instant insight Check for inflamed areas Quickly find livestock in a field Find lost/hidden pets Find hotspots on skin surfaces Check the temperature of an animal Check machinery to prevent overheating Having a CAT S60 on a farm could be very useful in a range of situations. Firstly you will be able to check for hot spots and inflamed areas on a animal even through fur, allowing you to possibly diagnose and treat the animal before the symptoms or issue get worse. If the farm is large it can be a struggle to find livestock, the S60 could come in very handy. Simply look for heat sources within the farm’s fields to find the animals then proceed onto putting them where they may need to go for shelter and rest. This could save a lot of time. When working on a farm you may need to use machinery to increase efficiency, if the machinery broke it could hinder the production and operations. With the Flir camera you can check whether the machinery is overheating, preventing damage and potetentially saving down time and money. Home and lifestyle Capture everything Home security Search for a missing pet or spot wildlife General DIY, check your home insulation/air drafts Take artistic photography and video Check food and grill temperatures Check the gas levels for a barbeque Locate pests With the S60 there are many uses you can utilise in and around your home. If you have lost your cat, dog or even a hamster you can easily conduct a search with the thermal camera by looking around in dark places such as bushes. For general DIY, look for overheating, damp areas and even checking your insulation. If you love photography you can take some very artistic photos using the Flir camera to show to all of your friends and family, when was the last time you took or saw a thermal image?!

Give your Android or iPhone a laser pointer via the 3.5mm earphone jack

Give your Android or iPhone a laser pointer via the 3.5mm earphone jack

This great little accessory called the X-pointer turns the 3.5mm jack on your Android or iPhone into a laser pointer. Its main use-case is for the likes of Powerpoint presentations, although I can also confirm that it works superbly for everybody’s favourite laser pointer use-case: playing with cats. Using the X-pointer as a laser is simple –  attach it to your handset via the 3.5mm jack, download the X-pointer lite app (Play Store, iTunes) and you’re good to go. Within the app there is a volume slider to adjust the intensity of the beam and an on screen button that you need to press and hold to activate the laser. The compatibility of the X-pointer is listed as follows, although I have been using it perfectly with the Galaxy Nexus, which is not included on the list: iPhone (3G/3GS/4/4S), iPod Touch, GALAXY S2, S3 GALAXY S2 LTE, S3 LTE, GALAXY Note There is another app that can be used with the X-pointer which enables you to switch between presentation slides whilst using the laser. This is called X-pointer 3 on the Google Play Store, or X-Presenter on iTunes. This app requires registration for use and unfortunately I have been unable to test this as there seems to be a bug on the registration screen (for the G Nexus that is). However, the X-pointer lite app alone makes it a worthwhile purchase in my opinion. Also included with the x-pointer is a stylus/holder. Although it’s not that precise as a stylus, it does work well for basic navigational functions. The x-pointer slots inside the holder to protect the laser dongle when transporting and then provides rigidity when using it as a stylus. There’s also a lanyard so that it can be attached to your handset or a pair of keys. It’s a compact little accessory that measures about an inch when attached to a handset or just over in the stylus/holder. The x-pointer is available to purchase here.

Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 Review

Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 Review

Here in the UK, depending on what piece of news you read on which day will depend on what story we are fed.  On one hand we are a nation that are less active, and on the other we have an increasing number of people taking up more sports and activities outdoors. Whatever the ‘real’ situation, the Xcover 3 from Samsung is aimed at the later, those who need a phone for the outdoors. Offering a level of ‘ruggedness’ in a phone that is not all that unattractive, is the 3rd generation of the Xcover family suitable for those who work and play in the outdoors. Read on or watch our video review to find out.   Hardware Specifications The Xcover 3 boasts the following hardware specifications: IP67 rating – can be immersed in 1m of water for 30 minutes Mil Spec 810G – will survive drops onto concrete from a height over 1.2 meters Google Android operating system with access to the popular Google Play Store and other Google services 4.5” touchscreen display 4G connectivity 8GB internal memory MicroSD memory card slot 5 megapixel camera 2200mAh user removable battery 24 month warranty As the specs suggest this is not an outright flagship phone, this is a practical solution to a need.  If you want the ‘best’ mobile gaming or multitasking device the Xcover 3 is not it. Buy Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 Design/Build The design ethos with Xcover devices has been to offer a blend of rugged features whilst retaining the traditional smartphone look and appeal.  The Xcover 3 is no exception. At quick glance and it looks like a regular smartphone, but when you pay a little more attention to it there are subtle design tweaks that work for the environments in which it is expected to be used. Whilst there can often be a stereotype for rugged phones, the key target audiences are those that work and relax in outdoors or tougher environments.  Whether you are a plumber, an outdoors sports coach, a white water rafter or an avid walker the Xcover 3 has been designed with you in mind. If you need something really tough, look at the RugGear range of phones. First of the key design tweaks are the three physical buttons on the front of the device.  Easy to touch and interact with even when the phone is wet or muddy. Of course the front is home to the 4.5” touchscreen, front facing camera, various sensors and earpiece too. The edges of the phone are made from a tough and resilient plastic that has grooves etched into it for a more grippy texture.  The same goes for the rear cover. Often the most vulnerable, the corners of the device have a little extra thickness that protects the screen a little more should it be dropped. All of the buttons on the device are raised.  On the right is the power key whilst the left if home to the volume up and down key and a programmable ‘Xcover’ key. It is worth noting here that the Xcover key can be programme to do different things with a short or long press.  Out of the box the flash illuminates to be used as a torch on a short press and the camera activated on a long press.  The only downside is you need to unlock the screen to take advantage which is a bit of a disappointment. The top of the phone is home to the headphone jack, whilst the bottom is where the microUSB port is for charging the phone along with a microphone. Under the removable back cover is the battery compartment which is home to a removable 2200mAh battery and there is the microSIM and microSD card slot. On the inside of the back cover is a rubber strip which forms a seal around these components when closed to stop any water ingression. Also present on the rear is a camera, flash and loudspeaker. A slightly larger bezel and slight lift in the back cover housing help protect these parts. A small and easy to miss addition is the lanyard attachment on the left side of the phone, which is certainly more desired by some in this market. It is also worth noting that there is no LED notification light. Part of the whole design is the water resistance.  Drop the handset in freshwater up to a depth of 1m for up to 30 minutes and it will survive.  Do not worry that the headphone jack and microUSB port are exposed, they are coated and protected against the elements. If the Xcover 3 was to find its way into salt water or other liquids it may survive but these have not been tested and things like salt can be corrosive.  Thus do give it a good wash should it come into contact with salt water or similar. Overall, in hand it feels solid and whilst not the best feeling when dry, when wet the plastics are much better than a glass alternative might be. Display At 4.5” the screen is on the smaller side of the scale really when you compare it to many phones available now. That said, I think it is ideally sized, not too big but large enough to be practical, and allow the phone to be used in one hand. The resolution is a little disappointing at 480 x 800 which equates to a pixels per inch count of a mediocre 207.  Whilst images and other content are perhaps not as sharp and vibrant, the positive effect is on the battery life. If you are reading a map, using a compass or navigation app, or crunching some figures on the calculator, the screen is perfectly adequate for this. You can change the brightness of the screen, but not automatically, it has to be done manually.  There is however an optional ‘outdoor mode’ which boosts the screens backlight for greater visibility. There is also the option for increased screen sensitivity.  This means should you be wearing gloves, but still wish to interact with the screen you can do so, although thick gloves can make it a bit fiddly.  Sony’s simple home with bigger on screen icons would work well in this instance, problem is, this is not a Sony. Software Out of the box, Android version 4.4.4 is loaded onto the Xcover 3. As is standard with Samsung Galaxy devices there is a level of customisation over and above what is known as stock Android. This customisation is not as heavy as it is on many other devices and of the 8GB of internal storage around 4.6GB is available.  Of course you can expand this with the microSD memory card slot. Many speak of Android 5.0 and no doubt in time the Xcover 3 will receive this update (no dates at time of writing) but it is not required.  There is everything that is necessary to be functional.  The Xcover 3 is aimed more at that avenue. Add and remove different home screens, add app shortcuts and widgets.  Re-organise the app drawer to your liking, download more apps and change the shortcuts available in the notification shade, all of what I would consider are basic desires of smartphone customisation are present. You can create folders of apps on the home screen too. Additions do include a file manager, Galaxy Apps and My Galaxy, which is minimal when it comes to Samsung’s added extras in the software. The pre-installed Google services are simple to connect to and for existing Google users, a simple sign in and you can be up and running within a matter of minutes. Easily add other accounts from different services, be it a Microsoft Exchange Server email account or your social media logins, all is part and parcel of the Galaxy Xcover. Download free or paid for apps from Google Play Store and much more. So whether you need to use the Xcover 3 for work purposes to write a document or record results when out in the field, or to find the nearest bridleway when out walking or to take calls and reply to customer emails when on a construction site, then the Xcover 3 can do all of this. Connectivity Within the UK, there is a lot of talk about 4G, so when purchasing your next smartphone it is worth ensuring it has 4G so even if you do not take advantage of such now, the device is future proofed, especially as you are likely to be using this for 18-24 months. Thankfully this is present here, along with 3G and 2G of course. WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and GLONASS are all present too. Use the microUSB connection for charging and connecting to a computer and the 3.5mm headphone jack for connecting up headphones or other audio products. If you need to share files take advantage of the USB hosting option which is supported.  Connect a USB memory stick (cable adapter required) and copy files to and from the phone. NFC is also available should you like to use this.  Particularly useful in some commercial applications and for saving effort on repetitive tasks you may complete on a phone each day. Audio Inevitably with a rear mounted speaker the sound can feel a bit directional and not as immersive as those with front facing solutions. As the majority of phones still have rear speakers, the Xcover is not exactly doing anything different. To get any reasonable volume, I had to set the speaker to half power, anything below and I could barely hear it.  Whack it up to full volume and the sound is much more audible but there is evidence of strain and a lot of reverberation through the back cover. At about 80-90% on the volume scale is where the sound performed best and was loud enough. I did not have the opportunity to test it on a construction site, but my guess would be that you would be struggling to really hear if you had it on loudspeaker and thus a wired headset or Bluetooth option would be best. Camera I have mixed feelings on the camera as a whole. On the positive side the camera app is pretty well featured with a number of different options for stills and videos. Different modes from auto, to sport to panorama. Control the flash, the focus, the exposure, ISO and white balance.  Use the volume key as a zoom control and even have grid lines. In good natural light, you can even get a depth of field to shots and be a little artistic, although there are limits. The camera can struggle to focus on occasions and take some time to capture images.  This is particularly noticeable in dark conditions. I took a picture in a pitch black garage and the camera took 3-4 seconds to capture the image, although the result was not all that bad. Even in better lit conditions, I did have to touch to focus as the camera seemed to struggle sometimes. To the resulting images then.  Low light images are ok with more noise as is to be expected. Well lit shots have much better results but some colours are oversaturated and lighter colours like white and yellow can blow out and be overexposed. If I had to sum the results up it would be satisfactory. Some shots from the camera.   Sample video footage. Battery At 2200mAh the battery on the Xcover is neither small or large but it is perfectly functional.  I was happily getting through a day, 8am – 10pm without the absolute need to charge it. This was with light usage to be honest and more intensive applications such as GPS navigating will have a detrimental effect. A nice inclusion is the Ultra Power Saving mode which can save power by minimising the home screen layout and limiting the number of usable apps.  It also provides a guide of how much time is left in the battery. This is particularly useful if you have drained the battery on a long hike, but wish to keep the phone operational for any emergencies. All this said, I think Samsung could have afforded to increase the thickness of the phone slightly to accomodate a bit of a bigger battery for peace of mind.  Although the low price of external batteries does mean carrying a battery bank could just be the answer. Price Sold SIM free at Clove for £189 inclusive of VAT, the Xcover 3 is not a bank busting price. With many popular handsets at the moment hitting around the £150 price point, this is not far above for what offers some more valuable extras. Without doubt there are more powerful smartphones available at this price but do they suit your needs? Get hold of an aftermarket case that offers more protection or water resistance could be an option for some, but these do not always come cheap and how practical are they really? Sony’s M4 Aqua is probably one of the closest alternatives.  At about £40 more expensive but not drop tested, the M4 offers a larger screen and better camera features primarily so this could be worth the extra spend. Conclusion The Xcover 3 certainly has features and a performance that is perfectly adequate for what I would consider to be the average user. If you are into photography on the go though or rely on the camera, I would question if the Xcover 3 is best for this, I would be looking at the M4 Aqua. Tradespersons who may think this suitable for them may want to consider the volume of background noise they generally encounter when making calls and if you use power draining features when away from power a battery bank might be a requirement. Whilst I do not think it will win any awards for innovation or value for money, nor will everyone be using one of these, you cannot really fault it considering what you get, a 24 month warranty and the peace of mind it is built by a reputable brand. USB wall sockets-Simple & superb

USB wall sockets-Simple & superb

It is often the simple solutions in life that make the biggest difference. The 2 way UK power socket with 2 USB ports is one such example in my opinion. I have the pleasure of seeing some great and really poor examples of technical innovations and this for me is up there with some of the best. No it does not do anything particularly new, but what it does do is take 2 very important things in most peoples lives and puts it in a package that is very convenient. As the name and image implies, this product is designed to replace an existing 2 socket faceplate you may have in your home. By replacing your existing faceplate, you get 2 3 pin sockets like you had but now two USB sockets for connecting your gadgets too. If you are anything like me, you will have a few devices that require power regularly, be it a smartphone, a smartwatch, a tablet, maybe a fitness product amongst others. That is just myself. My girlfriend has a similar array of tech. If you have children they too may have a couple of devices as well. I personally have a charger in the kitchen and in the bedroom as for me these are the two most logical places. Whilst 70% of the time my phone is charged at night by my bed, there are times where an extra charge during the day is necessary and this is often completed in my kitchen. I have a 4 gang extension running of a dual socket in my bedroom, because I have an alarm clock, bedside lamp, a shaver, electric toothbrush, phone charger all connected. By now you get the picture of where I am going and the problem. There are cables everywhere. The 2 way socket with USB ports does not reduce the number of devices that need charging but the way that they are charged and potentially doing away with an extension lead and making the whole solution a little safer. Suitable only for use within the UK, the process of installation is very simple. First turn of the mains power within your home. Before Unscrew the existing faceplate. During Disconnect the live, earth and neutral wires. During Reconnect these in the appropriate place on the new faceplate. Screw in the new faceplate (fixings supplied). After Turn the power on. This process takes less than 5 minutes really. I have now replaced 3 sockets in my home, 1 in the kitchen and 1 either side of the bed. I am pleased to say they work just as advertised and I am pleased and even my girlfriend is (believe me that is a compliment to this product), The USB sockets offer up to 2 Amps each, if the current exceeds this they will shut off. When two USB cables are connected the power is split between the two, but the socket will only draw what is required. When the USB cable is disconnected, the transformer shuts down and the power is not supplied to the socket. At £20 they could be considered an expensive solution, but really for the tidiness and convenience they bring they really pay for themselves. Of course you need only replace one or a few in your home. Now I am sure you have some queries about the technical and safety side of the socket. Let me give you the facts. The faceplate can be attached to any standard backbox with a minimum depth of 25mm. It is BE & CE approved. The USB ports are rated up to 2 Amps. USB socket draws only required power. USB socket switches off when no USB cable is connected. Surge & spike protected Currently the faceplate is only available in white, there may soon be other colour options but no confirmed arrival date on these. I personally feel that this is a great product and having shared on social media it would seem others think the same and some have already installed such. This is one new ‘toy’ or ‘gadget’ that anyone in your home (including visitors) can seek benefit from. What more justification do you need? You can order yours today by purchasing now from Clove.

Samsung Galaxy S3 uses a different MHL/HDMI Adapter

Are you interested in using your phone or tablet with a big screen? If so, you’ll be interested in our ebook: ‘Wired or Wireless? The Ultimate Guide To Using Your Phone With A Big Screen.’ Enter your email address below and we’ll send it straight over to you   Galaxy S3 uses a different MHL cable. Update: We have now confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Note II also uses the same MHL/ADMI adaptor as the Samsung Galaxy S3. If you already have a device such as a Samsung Galaxy S II or Nexus that has MHL/video out through the microUSB port then be aware, if you own the accessory that allows you to connect it to a HD display, IT WILL NOT WORK with the Galaxy S III. The Galaxy S3 has a different pin connection so you need a different adapter, which you can buy here. It works in exactly the same way but has the correct pin connections so your S3 display will be shown on a HD monitor or TV. If you too have an MHL enabled monitor like the one we demonstrated here, you will too need this accessory as the current microUSB MHL cables do not support the S3, it is hardware related rather than software. Update: The SGS3 MHL cable is not backwards compatible either, so will not work with older handsets such as the SGS2, Nexus or Galaxy Note. See an unboxing of the adapter and it in action in the following videos: You may also like to check out the other Samsung accessories that we range here.
