Dash Cams and in-vehicle recorders have become incredibly popular recently.
Some use them to lower insurance premiums or to ensure they have evidence in the event of an accident. Some just like having detailed footage of their drives. Companies may also install them to check employee's driving and avoid liability for incidents on the road.
With several brands to choose from, it can be difficult to pick apart all the available features. The F100 is an entry-level camera with optional GPS capabilities. The basic features provide high quality 1080p recording in several automatic modes to help you obtain the best footage.
Format Free Technology
The Thinkware F100 utilizes the TAT (Time Allocation Table) save system. This differs from the traditional FAT (File Allocation Table) system.
By using TAT, Thinkware can employ their proprietary Format Free Technology when recording to a microSD memory card. This eliminates the need for regular formatting of recorded video files from the card. It also helps extend the life of your memory card.
Another benefit is that you can view recorded video files on any PC without having to worry about converting files.
Autonomous Recording Modes
F1000 has a few dedicated recording modes to choose from depending on how you'd like to use it.
Continuous Recording Mode is activated automatically when you start the engine. Recorded videos are saved in one-minute segments with an auto-looping mechanism.
The Active Impact Monitoring System will automatically store the video recorded ten seconds prior to and after any collision registered by the 3-axis G-Sensor.
There is also a Manual Recording Mode to simply record at the push of a button until you decide to stop.
If you use the optional Thinkware GPS Module (sold separately), the F100 can record additional data such as your vehicle's speed and precise location for later use on maps.
Use the companion PC and Mac application to change the camera settings and update the firmware. You can also view GPS information, playback footage, and complete basic editing.
The F100 has Intelligent Auto Exposure, Smart Focusing system, Noise reduction system and ACCE (Adaptive Colour & Contrast System).
All of these combine to ensure you obtain detailed, clear footage no matter the conditions. Bright sunlight or night-time under street lights, you can be assured of quality imagery.
The automatic exposure system is especially useful when light conditions change quickly. For instance, if you exit a tunnel or turn a corner into the sunlight, or oncoming traffic has bright lights.
The F100's integrated thermal sensor can trigger a self-protection mechanism under extreme temperatures. This shuts down the device to avoid damaging the internals.
Be aware where you park your vehicle, as this mechanism may take effect when the car is left parked in direct sunlight in hot environments.
This feature will protect your F100 from damage, although may result in no footage being recorded from Parking Mode.
